Though the heritage of Nike Football dates back to 1971, it wasn’t until 1998, with the launch of the first Mercurial boot, that Nike brought signature innovation to the pitch. Featuring a lightweight upper constructed with synthetic materials, the Mercurial put the emphasis on maximizing speed like no boot prior. Its legacy continues to grow year after year on the pitch – and now, off of it.

The Air Jordan “Barons Pack” references Michael’s first departure from the NBA,
a move that shocked the world and saw the legend spend a little bit of time on the baseball diamond trying to make it work
with the Birmingham Barons. So how are these two shoes connected to that era in MJ history?

Well for one, the Air Jordan 9 was the model on-feet for MJ during his time off from the game.

And right around that time the Air Jordan 1 was reborn, as Nike first toyed with the idea of retro-ing Jordan models.

Take a look at those two donning the pinstriped “Birmingham Barons” looks.

Introduced in 1990, the Air Max 90 (initially known as the Air Max III) brought clean lines, supreme cushion, and a ultra-breathable mesh upper that collectors today still prefer. This “Ice” edition takes the head-turning “icy” sole treatment and brings it to the iconic Air Max 90’s midsole. An allover geometrically shaped “ice” shards are spotted on the Hyperfuse upper to bring home the chill factor.

The “Snakeskin” Air Jordan 11 low released May 26, 2001. During the Air Jordan XI’s original moment in the spotlight a handful of these low hitting PE’s were made for Michael himself, with the public forced to settle for the tweaked IE version as far as retail availability. The true patent leather version’s eventual emergence from the vaults half a decade later would mark the first retro Air Jordan Low, and no doubt the most sought after in that category.

The Air Jordan 9 (IX) Retro – Countdown Package 9 / 14 (White / Black – True Red) are exact copies of the 2002 retros, and released on March 15, 2008. They feature a white leather upper with a black base around the bottom of the upper, as well as an all black midsole and white outsole. The bottom of the shoe is very detailed , and features different inspirational words, all in different languages. The Air Jordan 9 (IX) is a high top which protects the ankle, but also consists of features such as a dynamic – fit inner bootie, a “one pull” lacing system, large volume air- sole unite in the heel, an encapsulated air- sole unit in the forefoot, and a polyurethane midsole.

The Air Jordan 14 (XIV)‘s also begun the trend of having a number of things that would count towards the model# of the shoe. On the Air Jordan 14 (XIV)‘s each shoe had seven jumpmans; ferrari-like shield, insole, sole, back, 2 x lace tip and front. Counting them on both shoes makes it a total of 14 (XIV) Jumpmans. The Retro 14 featured a sleek black on black look with white contrast stitching and minor white accenting.
