kanYe West – College Dropout 2004

Through the Wire

Before the world knew Kanye West as one of hip-hop’s most prolific and legendary voices, he was a hungry kid from Chicago with an unwavering belief in his vision.

I had the privilege of working with Ye as we produced creative album assets, websites, billboards, and marketing ideas, all surrounding The College Dropout rollout. Being a part of that process up close was unforgettable.

At the time, it was clear that he was determined to create something different. He was not interested in simply following the formula. He wanted the work to feel personal, soulful, and honest—rooted in Chicago, but made to reach far beyond it.

When The College Dropout arrived on February 10, 2004, it did more than introduce a new artist. It shifted the conversation around what a hip-hop debut could be. The album’s impact was immediate, but its legacy has only grown with time.

I’m grateful to Ye for allowing me to contribute to that creative journey and to witness the process behind such a monumental, historic album. Some projects capture a moment; this one helped define an era, and some of it happened right from my desk.
