Bob Seger Final Tour

October 19, 2019 | Category: Concerts

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band • Final Tour

The Bob Seger Final Tour rolled through Chicago’s United Center on Saturday, October 19th. One of Seger’s strengths is his ability to craft a set that perfectly ebbs and flows through the range of nostalgic emotion his catalog affords, bringing the audience to a contemplative state one moment and full-on euphoria the next. An early example of this was the trifecta of “The Fire Down Below,” “Mainstreet” and “Old Time Rock & Roll.” The gritty, rocking “The Fire Down Below” raised the temperature of the proceedings considerably — with Seger having the crowd enthusiastically shout out the title every time it came up.” “Mainstreet” followed with the 74-year-old frontman sitting on a stool strumming an acoustic guitar, and fans singing the plaintive “down on Mainstreet” chorus as if by sheer force of habit, without any prompting whatsoever.

“Old Time Rock & Roll” rumbled forth with a sheer party atmosphere as the house lights came up to show everyone going crazy and compelling the first full standing ovation of the night throughout the arena.

Guns N Roses – Exit 111 Festival

October 15, 2019 | Category: Concerts

“YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE?”

Guns N’ Roses returned Sunday to Middle Tennessee to headline the final night of Exit 111, a carnival of headbanging hard rock held at Great Stage Park in Manchester (aka the beloved Bonnaroo ‘Farm’). Fans who didn’t let a 40 degree cold end their show early were treated to “Paradise City” and blaze of fireworks to close Exit 111 — a final shot of musical warmth against the chill that waited to take over.

It sounded like a Kid Rock show. It looked like a Kid Rock show. When the obligatory pyrotechnics went off, it boomed like a Kid Rock show.

Post Malone • Runaway Tour

GRAMMY nominated, multi-platinum artist Post Malone Runaway Tour, his latest North American outing made a stop in Chicago on October 1, 2019. Produced by Live Nation.

Post is not perfect, so maybe that’s why his fans connect on many levels. He sings about breakups, anxiety, and not fitting in. It’s what makes him relatable. He messes up, we all do. While topping charts globally the 24-year-old singer/songwriter/producer has also created waves in the music industry for being something he’s not. “I see those same motherfuckers who told me I wouldn’t make it almost every day, and they always say, ‘Congratu-fucking-lations, man,’ so I guess this is Postie’s way of telling y’all to do whatever the fuck you want.”

Dierks Bentley • Burning Man Tour 2019 Chicago

According to Dierks Bentley himself, “Chicago never disappoints and always brings the energy.” Friday Night, August 23rd was the next stop on the Burning Man Tour at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois. Joined by Tenille Townes, Jon Pardi, and even Hot Country Knights, Bentley’s alter-ego’s 90’s country band, the show was definitely a night to remember.

Florida Georgia Line • Dan + Shay • Morgan Wallen • Hardy

On July 20th, I survived the 104º heat, as hit country duo Florida Georgia Line headlined the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in New York, and was able to capture the venue and the more than 18,000 fans. This show was a part of their “Can’t Say I Ain’t Country” Tour. They shared the stage with such musical acts as HARDY, Morgan Wallen and Dan + Shay. The tour’s namesake song, the mid-tempo “Can’t Say I Ain’t Country” was a great deal of fun, and equally nonchalant and liberating were “Y’all Boys,” “Confession” and “Round Here.” They showed their wide range as country artists on the moving ballad “Dirt,” and another emotional highpoint was “H.O.L.Y.” The melodically infectious “May We All” was this journalist’s personal favorite Florida Georgia Line tune. For their encore, equally noteworthy was their smash single “Meant To Be” and the vivacious “This Is How We Roll,” which were sheer bliss.
